Domestic LPG gas cylinder prices slashed by ₹200 for all consumers.
The central government announced during the Cabinet meeting on Tuesday that there will be a reduction of ₹200 per cylinder in the prices of domestic cooking gas for all consumers. The Cabinet has approved an additional subsidy under the Ujjwala scheme, amounting to ₹200. As a result, the subsidy for beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) will now be ₹400 per cylinder. Presently, in New Delhi, the price of a 14.2 kg LPG cylinder is ₹1,103. Starting from Wednesday, the price will be reduced to ₹903. Consequently, considering the ongoing subsidy of ₹200 for Ujjwala beneficiaries, the effective price will be ₹703 per cylinder.
Union officials expressed, “Prime Minister Modi’s decision to cut the price of domestic LPG cylinder by ₹200 for all consumers is a significant step… This decision is a gift to the women of the country on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan and Onam from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”
Minister Anurag Thakur stated, “In 2014, when we came to power for the first time, only 14.5 crore citizens had domestic LPG connections. Today, that number has increased to 33 crore, out of which 9.6 crore have been distributed under the Ujjwala scheme.”
Reacting to the announcement, BJP President JP Nadda tweeted, “Heartfelt thanks for the decision to significantly reduce the price of cooking gas by the Cabinet under the leadership of Honorable Prime Minister @narendramodi.
