Assam police’s successful operation against FICN dealers. In a major operation against counterfeit Indian currency notes (FICN), the Special Task Force of the Assam Police apprehended three FICN dealers in Goalpara district on Tuesday. The arrested individuals have been identified as Mohammad Anowar Hussain age 52, Mohammad Rafique Ahmed age 47, and Krowel Marak age 35, all residents of the Krishnai area in Goalpara district.

The Assam Police took action based on inputs provided by DIG Partha Sarathi Mahanta, the head of the State Special Task Force, regarding FICN transactions. A statement said, “An operation was initiated, and on Tuesday morning, the STF team proceeded from Guwahati. At 1 pm, the team intercepted a Maruti Alto vehicle with registration number (AS 18 F 6863) in the Krishnai city and successfully apprehended three FICN dealers.” According to the Assam Police.

The statement further stated, “During the search campaign, 29 bundles of FICN of the denomination of INR 500 were seized from the vehicle. Along with FICN, the vehicle and four mobile handsets were seized and taken into custody. All apprehended individuals and seized items were handed over to the in-charge officer of the Krishnai Police Station to initiate necessary legal proceedings, and consequently, a case was registered at the Krishnai Police Station for further investigation.”

Similar crackdowns on FICN rackets have been carried out in various locations in Assam. FICN dealers are making every effort to distribute these notes in the market.

While in West Bengal, the country recorded the highest number of cases related to counterfeit currency in 2021 with 82 cases, followed by Tamil Nadu with 62 cases. In total, 639 cases of counterfeit bank and currency notes were registered in India in 2021.
