Apple’s USB-C Revolution: iPhone 15’s Impact on AirPods

With the upcoming iPhone 15, apple’s USB-C cable that comes with it will be capable of charging Apple’s flagship Earbuds – imagine purchasing a new pair!

Apple's USB-C

It might sound a bit unusual to change the iPhone lineup to USB-C for Apple, but it’s not going to stick the highly popular AirPods Pro with the Lightning charging port. As expected, that’s not happening. Today, Apple has announced that the AirPods Pro will now ship with a USB-C charging case. This means that owners of both the new iPhone 15 and the Earbuds can use the same cable to charge their devices. During the presentation, Apple also mentioned that you’ll be able to charge your AirPods with your iPhone as well.

Aside from that, these are still the same, in all ways excellent, second-generation AirPods Pro, and they’ll soon be receiving new software features like Adaptive Audio, Conversation Awareness, and much more. Unfortunately, you’ll have to wait until September 22 for the release of the iPhone 15 to get your hands on them – and it doesn’t seem like the USB-C case is available for standalone purchase for your existing devices.

The move to USB-C for AirPods continues Apple’s gradual adoption of the connector, following suit with helper devices like Macs, iPads, iPhones, and even the Apple TV 4K remote control. During the presentation, Apple also announced an updated pair of its wired EarPods, which include USB-C.

However, when it comes to the regular AirPods or the AirPods Max headphones, it can’t be said that the same applies. Apple hasn’t mentioned any USB-C upgrades for those devices, and rumors suggest that both products might be in line for updates sometime next year.
